Luton Town will be missing several players for their upcoming match against Oxford United on Tuesday night, though the injury situation isn’t as bad as initially feared, according to manager Rob Edwards.

The Hatters have not only seen their performance decline since their relegation to the Championship, but they have also been plagued by numerous injuries.

Luton has struggled with fitness issues dating back to before the season began and hasn’t been able to shake them off. During their 3-1 loss to Plymouth Argyle on Friday night, they suffered three more injuries.

In the first half, Teden Mengi sustained a knee injury and was replaced by Mads Andersen, who later suffered an injury of his own. Tahith Chong was also forced off after taking a blow to the head early in the second half.

Ahead of the Oxford United clash, Edwards confirmed that both Chong and Andersen would miss the game. Mengi, however, has not been ruled out yet, as his knee injury is still being assessed.

Edwards shared that while Mengi’s injury isn’t as serious as first thought, it remains uncertain if he will be fit in time for the match.

Regarding Chong, Edwards explained that while he won’t be available for the Oxford game, there’s a possibility he could return by the weekend. Andersen’s absence is also expected to be short-term, with Edwards hopeful he’ll be back in a couple of weeks, though he acknowledged Andersen’s frustration over his ongoing fitness struggles.

Additionally, Carlton Morris is unlikely to play midweek, as Edwards doesn’t want to risk further injury. He also called on fans to support Elijah Adebayo, who has faced criticism after a goalless start to the season but will start against Oxford United.

With Luton facing both injuries and a poor run of form, things are looking tough for the team. Currently sitting on seven points from seven games, Edwards is under increasing pressure, though the injuries affecting the squad need to be considered when evaluating his performance.

Despite these challenges, Luton has been a well-run club for years, and a turnaround is expected, but for now, they’re enduring one of their roughest periods in recent seasons.
